About the studio

Two people, one quiet studio in Vancouver.

She taught herself design, I spent six years building software on other people's teams, and earlier this year we started doing it together instead. Same work, fewer meetings, and nobody standing between you and the people building the thing.

Our story

How this started

We started this year, so the honest version is short. I spent six years building software on other people's teams and wanted the whole of a project instead of a slice of it. She designs. Between the two of us that covers the work from the first sketch to the day it's live.

The people we want to build for are small businesses with a good thing going and a website that doesn't show it, and companies with a real idea that need the whole thing made: the database, the accounts, the admin screens nobody outside the company ever sees.

She's also pre-dental, studying for one career while practising another. That's the real reason we take one project at a time rather than filling the year, and it's why the ones we take get looked at properly.

There's no portfolio on this site yet and we're not going to dress that up. What you get for coming to us early is both of us on your project with nothing else competing for the hours, and the first write-up we publish being yours.

The two of us

The people you actually talk to

No account managers, no bench. The two names below are the two people who'll be on your project.

Alexandra Arellano

Founder, design

Alexandra taught herself design by doing it, then went through Google's UI/UX certificate to fill in what she had worked around. She draws every screen on this site and every one we ship. She's also pre-dental, which is the other half of her week.

Dmitrii Fomin

Co-founder, development

Dmitrii has been writing software for six years, all of it on other people's teams until this one. He builds the frontend and the backend both, so what Alexandra draws is what actually gets made.

What we hold to

Three things, in order

  1. Calm over chaos

No late-night pings, no surprise scope, no five-person thread about one button. You get a note each week saying what moved and what's next, and the rest of the time we're working.

  2. Craft, end to end

The same two people draw it, build it and put it live. Nothing gets translated through a spec on the way, and nothing gets dropped because it belonged to someone else's ticket.

  3. Few projects, deep care

We'd rather do a few things properly than keep a pipeline full. That means saying no more often than yes, and it means your project isn't competing with six others for the same Tuesday.
